An Experiment in Blogging for Profit, Starting With No Money!
By Michael Brock (a.k.a. FreeBlogger)
Date Started: March 8, 2008 AD

Greetings and welcome to my new place in the blogoshpere: FreeBlogger.biz. And get ready for a brand new era in blogging for profit, or rather freeblogging for profit, as you will soon learn.

Now, so that you will better understand the basic nature of The Free Blogoprise Project, I feel it necessary to begin by giving you my definition of free blogoprise:

free blogoprise n. Based on the longstanding economic doctrine of free enterprise, it is the freedom of private business blogs to operate competitively not only for profit with minimal government intervention or regulation but also for free, if necessary or desired, given current Internet Marketing trends.

Indeed, free blogoprise is the core concept and/or unique niche behind this blog and its purpose, which is to be free to start and operate — in terms of cash up front — yet profitable and duplicatable. And that is the essence of The Free Blogoprise Project: to create such a blog and use it to teach others how to do the same or similar. The truth is that it’s an original idea conceived out of necessity and desperation by yours truly, during a low point in my life.

You see, as of March 1, 2008 (i.e., my 39th birthday), due to a series of negative events in the past few years (e.g., my mom died May 5, 2006, etc.) and some bad decisions I had made in general (e.g., I got my first — and presumably last — DUI on August 26, 2006 and lost my Driver’s License, etc.), I was dead broke, very depressed, chronically unemployed, still without a Driver’s License and living with my Aunt and Uncle. Not the ideal situation for anybody approaching 40, to say the least.

Realizing that I had hit rock bottom, again, I decided it was to time make a change or bust! So, using an old computer my cousin gave me and the family Internet connection, I started searching for a way to make money online.

My search ultimately led me to conclude that professional blogging (a.k.a. problogging; cf. blogging for profit) is the most reasonable approach, considering the abundance of free information available on the topic and its popularity and/or mass appeal over all.

The problem was that I didn’t have any money! And everybody knows the old saying, “It takes money to make money!” So I found myself asking, “Is it possible to make good money blogging, even if you don’t have any money to start with?” And in my quest to find out the answer, the idea for The Free Blogoprise Project was born and grew into my personal mission.

Obviously, not having any money is a huge obstacle for anyone to overcome if they want to start a business (online or off), right? But in my case that was just one thing standing in my way.

To make matters worse, I didn’t even have a bank account, which meant that I couldn’t get a verified PayPal account either. So then I started asking myself, “How could I possibly start a profitable business blog with these limitations confronting me?”

Fortunately, for me and others in similar situations, the Internet Marketing community at large has a lot to offer for free nowadays, including the online business basics: free domains, free Web hosting, free software and tons of free information on every imaginable subject.

For us, it just requires the investment of a little time — in lieu of cash or other capital — to obtain these crucial items at the outset of starting our own online businesses. And since I certainly had more time than money to begin with, this was the course of action that I chose to follow on starting mine.

So the craft of finding the best free stuff on the Internet and informing others about it became the niche my blog would be based on and evolved into my concept of free blogoprise and The Free Blogoprise Project.

Moreover, it has given me a new sense of being and now I’m determined to make this a popular and profitable business blog and will do everything that I morally, ethically and legally can to make it happen.

The way I intend to do it is to help as many other people as I can in the process! And helping them get a free blog or website is only the beginning. There’s a lot (and I do mean A LOT) of free stuff available on the Internet right now and is only growing in number.

And there’s just as much other stuff available that only costs a few bucks but is worth far more in reality and/or in the hands of the right people. Some of it is junk, of course. But some of it is necessary to starting an online business blog or website. In fact, this blog is evidence that such things are available to those who are willing to invest a little time in acquiring them.

That’s right, everything you see here, from the top-level domain name and premium Web hosting package to the professional blogging software (WordPress, of course) and design theme (currently Mimbo) was totally free – in terms of money out of pocket.

Seriously, the only thing I spent on any of it was the time it took to find it and to satisfy the requirements of the incentivized offers providing it, which is usually no more than filling out a couple fields of information (e.g., name and email address), clicking a submit button, and then checking your email to confirm your request by clicking a link to the download page. Or you’ll receive the link to the download page in a follow-up / welcome email.

Now, the offers do vary and sometimes require a little more participation, such as completing a survey or viewing advertisements, depending on the incentive/s or prize/s involved and the provider. Either way, it doesn’t cost any money out of pocket and allows you to get started for free! And in a nutshell, my friend, that is free blogoprise in action.

Not to mention the potential profit margin or return on investment (a.k.a. ROI) that is afforded when you start a business for free. I mean, think about it for a moment…

If you start out for nothing more than a little time, then everything you earn is profit, right? Of course, your time is worth something too! But only you know how much that is. Don’t worry, though, because the offers don’t take that long to complete either.

Honestly, it only took me about an hour to earn enough incentive points to get this top-level domain and premium Web hosting package for a whole year! How much is that worth? Well, I’d say on the low end it’s about $70 USD and up to a couple hundred dollars, depending on the provider, package and terms you choose.

The point is that you can start a blog or website for nearly nothing using free blogoprise. And what that’s worth is also up to you. But some people DO make a ton of money from the Internet. I pray that YOU become one them and only ask for the same prayer from you in return!

Yeah, free blogoprise is a pretty simple, straightforward process that can be used by virtually any adult in the free world (and even kids 13+ in some cases) to start their own business blog or any other kind of website for that matter, starting with no money.

And the goal of this blog and The Free Blogoprise Project is to inform others of its existence and to teach them how to employ it for themselves in an easily duplicatable manner. And what better way to accomplish this mission than to lead by example; hence the nickname: FreeBlogger!

Thanks for visiting today and stay tuned for more… In the meantime, God bless and happy blogging!

  3. Hey Rodrigo,

Thank you very much for visiting my blog, reading my posts, and leaving a comment… I really appreciate it!

As mentioned in my last entry (see Sporadic Surf Report (July - October 2K8)), I’ve been very busy for the past few months and thus have not put much effort into this blog. But I do intend on keeping it going and adding new content as often as I can. And I sincerely hope that all the information you find here is helpful in some way.

In your comment, you said that you’re a government employee in your country. And, just out of curiosity, I was wondering what country you are from? And also, how did you find my blog? I always like to know where my readers are from and how they found me.

Now, as for your salary not being enough, I certainly understand and can empathize with your circumstances, given the current unstable global economy. A lot of people are in the same situation here and elsewhere around the world. But there is always hope and faith that things will change for the better.

Indeed, history shows us that they will because our economy, being based on debt, is cyclical and therefore operates according to predictable patterns. I don’t know if you’re familiar with Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, but he has been predicting these patterns for years. If you’d like to listen to a recent audio recording of him discussing this very subject, then just let me know and I’ll give you a link to it.

Well, I guess that’s enough for this time. Have a great, blessed day, my new friend!

    Best Regards,

    Michael Brock

P.S. By the way, one of the new website projects that I’m presently working on should prove to be even more helpful to you than this blog. And I will write a post about it when it’s ready.
